This time last year Dezeen was in Cologne for the annual furniture fair, where we saw a sofa you could wrap around yourself, a chair bent from a single sheet of aluminium and a rocking horse shaped like a vase. This week Richard Meier & Partners unveiled designs for a 34-storey tower in Mexico City, SOM won a competition to design a skyscraper for China with proposals that incorporate a 30-storey-high opening window and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in Chicago released a report that revealed a record number of skyscrapers were completed in 2011.
