This week on Dezeen Thomas Heatherwick designed an interior for an abbey with curving walnut and ash choir stalls and Dutch architects MVRDV unveiled proposals for a hotel covered in flowers inside a giant greenhouse.

The Campana brothers wrapped a furniture showroom with faceted aluminium plant holders and a glass-clad spa encircling a tree was popular with Dezeen readers. Many of the designs for the London 2012 Olympic posters by leading UK artists failed to impress, while graphic designer Sarah Hyndman’s conceptual alternatives replaced the Olympic rings with everyday objects.

Stocking-shaped blood packs that encourage people to give blood for Christmas were described by one reader as “in bad taste” and a conceptual chair that reflects the recession in its diminished form divided opinion.

We released details of some top designers who will contribute unique products and curated displays at our Christmas shop, The Temporium.

Cloud 9 Architects’ Media-ICT office building became World Building of the Year 2011, David Chipperfield was announced as the curator of the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale and ACID asked for evidence of copying in design to support their campaign for stricter copyright laws.

Over on Dezeen Screen we had a guided tour of the Qubique fair from one of its organisers, Ulrich Weingärtner, while Jeroen Luttikhuis of OPERA Amsterdam explained their winning project at the Inside awards display category – the Ceramics Study Galleries at the V&A in London.
