Five years ago this week the late Steve Jobs unveiled the Apple iPhone, and went on to sell over a hundred million of them. Following their competition win, we revealed new images of the OMA-designed Shenzhen Stock Exchange, which topped out in June last year, and Brazilian brothers the Campanas completed the interior of a Camper shoe store in Berlin. Marc Newson designed a set of children’s toys for furniture store Habitat, who have since closed all but three of their UK shops, and we featured a farmhouse-style restaurant and traditional bakery by British architects FAT, located next door to the remaining Tottenham Court Road branch of Habitat. This time last year Chinese architects MAD unveiled plans for a museum shaped like a giant icicle and a mirrored treehouse in Sweden opened up its doors to overnight guests. Japanese designers Nendo presented a collection of furniture comprised entirely of square and cube-shaped parts, while an RCA student came up with a fun way to recycle leftover Christmas trees and we featured a mirrored office with a hidden slide entrance. This week a boat-shaped apartment washed up on the roof of the Southbank Centre in London, dRMM completed a shimmering golden wedding chapel in the British seaside town of Blackpool and we showed images of Renzo Piano’s new wing at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
