On 17 November 2006 Dezeen published its first ever story about the Design Museum dropping the Designer of the Year award. That week we also reported on the resignation of Wallpaper editor Jeremy Langmead and the announcement that Jaime Hayon would be one of the speakers at the following year’s Design Indaba conference. Our first image-based story was a new collection of furniture by Ineke Hans, including chairs wrapped in bandages and lamps covered in tape. This week on Dezeen we celebrated our fifth birthday! We picked some of our favourite parties, stories and projects since 2006 and published a selection of the lovely tweets we received. Meanwhile, Foster + Partners designed a glossy production facility for supercar brand McLaren, new images of Daniel Libeskind’s museum in Dresden provoked more negative responses and one reader said a border checkpoint by Berlin architect J. Mayer H. looks “like a disfigured 1960′s spaceship with a caravan on top.” Japanese designers Nendo created an interior full of fake doors for a boutique in Kyoto and a sunken bridge that traverses the moat of a Dutch fort received reviews such as…
