  1. Space exists with time. The site is located at Sejong-daero with the area size of 1,088 m2. It is a place where the meaning has accumulated through the interweaving of space, time, and public events. This design competition attempts to augment a new temporal layer of time. The layer of time in the space will intersect with the ground's open space and underground's contemporary space, and they will coexist in a different topographical demarcation. Thus, the shaped space in Saejong-daero will shine among citizens' mind and life. On the ground, This site has been the heart of Seoul from the Joseon dynasty, via the Korean Empire to the modern and contemporary period, holding variety of meaningful political events such as 4.19 Revolution, June Democratic Uprising, and 2002 World Cup cheering and so on. In connection with the surrounding heritages such as Seoul Metropolitan Council, Seoul Anglican Cathedral, Deoksugung Palace, and Seoul City Hall, the ground plane needs to incorporate an open space. On the underground, The underground space is open to the designer's suggestion. It is a contemporary space that provides an emergent program that invites citizens to participate at the historic and cultural events. Fixed or open programs, changing programs, and an undetermined, but yet public programs, could be suggested. These programs are based on a long-term connection plan between Sejong-daero underground space and other surrounding underground networks. A new temporal layer of time, Both ground's open space and underground's historic cultural space will resume the historical spirit that had once existed on the site, and the site itself will add a new temporal layer of time and space that can make people feel the value of future citizen that overcomes the status quo viewpoints of our city and country. 11. In the digital landscape a new reality has started to shine by itself: the ubiquitous computing. A concept that is burying the common idea of machine and completely altering the role computers play nowadays. In this computational narrative, the challenge is no longer to add a new digital object to our list of tools, but to dote faculty of processing data to our domestic elements. In this regard, and unlike the desktop computation, ubiquitous computing propose natural and constant interaction among users and environment, extending its influence in all fields of human phenomena, even in the one more domestic and primary: our body.In this context, disciplines as programming and electronics become highly interconnected, blurring old boundaries and merging different fields of knowledge. Fashion has been already affected by this radical change. Therefore, clothes, shoes and other accessories can now incorporate elements of hardware and software, generating a peculiar mix between fashion and computation that is incredibly fertile and inspiring. Data becomes Beauty, Interaction becomes Emotion. As a result, a new aesthetic is emerging. Reshape focus on the definition of this language, proposing a new challenge to makers and designers: RESHAPE15 | WEarable technology competition. Proposals will focus on the possibilities of wearable technology without any design limitation. Once again Reshape leaves to designers freedom and responsibility of their own choices. Nonetheless, all submission must reflect the mission of Reshape: merging ideas with fabrication processes and market viabilities. Fabrication strategies must be clear and reasonable, demonstrating a real control of the production process. The distributed network of fabrication of Reshape includes Fab Labs and Maker Space, all equipped with digital fabrication machines such as laser cutters, 3d printers, milling machines and robotics arms. Entries are required to rely on those machines as main tools for the fabrication process. Assembly method and production costs will also be taken into consideration in the evaluation process. All winner proposals will be awarded according to the prize pool. In addition to the economical prize, Reshape offers a unique e-commerce platform * where the best design proposals will be presented and launched into the market. Designers will have then the possibility to sell their own products promoting their design on the international platform of Reshape. The total prize is 2700 €, which will be distributed among the first, second and third winner accordingly. 1st prize 1500 €* 2nd prize 700 €* 3rd prize 500 €* All winners will be included in the online platform of RESHAPE. In the website there will be a direct link to each project with information of each designer. Winners selected by the jury will be invited to take part to specific workshops in several Fab Labs connected to the competition. All winner proposals will be presented in different exhibitions around the world. Reshape will offer the following conditions for the projects inserted in the e-commerce platform: for each product sold, royalties of 80% from income of sale will be recognized to the designer and makers. The contest organizer has the right to use the materials submitted for educational and promotional purposes, always quoting the source, without any form of remuneration for the designers. By entering the competition, participants accept all the rules of the present brief. Any infringement will be notified and evaluated by the Reshape jury and organization. Presenting their project proposal, each participant declares that is totally aware and agrees to all the contents of the competition. 17. This is a competition about rethinking the filling station: As the automobile became a highly celebrated and desired part of western society during the first half of the 20th century, the filling station followed closely behind as the architectural counterpart of this new phenomenon that was changing the world. However, as car ownership exploded around the world, the novelty started to wear off, and filling stations were soon regarded as a source of income rather than the celebration of a bright future. The fall from grace was further solidified when it became clear just how much of a negative impact the car had on the environment. Since then, the filling station has been a neglected, yet ubiquitous part of our world. Still, as long as people travel the roads, filling stations will be needed to provide people as well as vehicles with fuel and assistance. Is there an ideal contemporary filling station, and can it be designed to last both functionally and aesthetically? Register by: 05-10-2015 / Submit by: 05-17-2015 View the full article

  19. OPORTO CITY - Oporto is one the main cities in Portugal, with a rich culture and traditions. With a huge historic past including Christian conquests over the Muslim empire, French Napoleonic invasions in the 19th century and even a civil war during the political tensions between monarchists and liberalists, Oporto has a huge package of traditions ready to be told and explored by the all! WHERE IS THE PROBLEM The city’s lifestyle has changed during the last years due to the economic crisis that Portugal suffered. Since 2001 when the city was nominated European Capital of Culture only a few projects have been made and the ones who were built mostly focused on tourism. Oporto is now one of thousands of cities in the world victim of gentrification, with people escaping from the core and centre of the city to live in the surroundings, leaving the historic spaces to tourists, night parties and recreations. Due to these two factors we see a city that has great characteristics but almost abandoned by their inhabitants and where the economic crisis accentuates the amount of abandoned and deserted areas. The new trend of creativity that focuses on a reinterpretation of the local economy into a new flexible system that promotes new opportunities for young creative professionals, has been, during this past few years a new starting point to revitalize Oporto. With a huge number of young professionals fighting to get career opportunities in the city, we can see that the cultural lifestyle and environment still can manage to attract new talents. Focusing on these young professionals seems to be a huge step to be able to reach technological, creative and innovative progress that leads consequently to better economic development. For this new class to arise the city must be able to promote the right conditions for them. Being able to attract new professionals means revitalizing the economic core and inverse the gentrification process giving a new lifestyle and creative mark to the city’s spaces. THE PROPOSAL This exercise will focus on designing a Co-working space promoting the right conditions for the young creative professionals to work in the city. The project must be able to reunite professionals from all kinds of fields and have a critical and innovative thinking about the city’s actual issues and weaknesses. Located near the historic centre of the city, the site is mainly a car parking area partially under a bridge, on the top of a cliff with a unique view to the river and the opposite margin. Teams are free to explore the most bold and out of the box ideas, using for their advantage the relief of the site and also promoting new ways to innovate co-working spaces within the program stipulated. Within the co-working area the project must include a good spatial diversity demonstrating a study and analysis of the new tendencies in these new functional buildings. 21. AIM: The aim of this international ideas competition is to recognise the architectural and design principle involved in designing a high quality tree-house and the role they sometimes play in shaping our ideas of low-cost, low maintenance and sustainable architectural design in many world communities. This competition investigates, explores and emphasises the importance of sustainable concept in Treehouse design as they become ever more popular, more intricate and more commercial. PROJECT: The program is to design an original Contemporary Treehouse pod, capsule or series of pods with the vision of being located on the proposed ‘The Garden Bridge’ across the river Thames in London. The Treehouse pod will provide an elegant and inspiring space for visitors or crossers to retreat, relax for lunch, diner, drinks, special romantic or simply for leisurely pursuits such as reading, drawing the cityscape or simply day dreaming short-time retreat for relaxation. Treehouses have a magic that stimulates our imaginations in any unique surroundings and posses an unforgettable promise of an adventure. The uniqueness of a Treehouse is sometimes based on the unique feature of the host tree or anchor points, which adds to that childhood dream or fairy tale of a hideout and adventure playground set high in the sky. It is also a space of retreat transporting adults from the stresses of everything reality to a world high up the tree top to be close to nature or an elevated view. 25. CALLING: artists, makers, visual thinkers, students and practitioners of design, urbanism, architecture, landscape, planning and other allied disciplines. Images and techniques that portray the process of revealing design in all its forms are invited for a peer-reviewed exhibition and publication. Think Fast explores the role of ambiguity and deconstruction in design imagination, intent and contemporary representation. The interdisciplinary collection of work selected for exhibition will travel to at least three academic venues: Ball State University, Kansas State University and Parsons The New School for Design. The exhibition and subsequent publication will collect unfinished, deconstructed or otherwise ambiguous design images and products to bridge creative disciplines, and to reveal meaning in the often-accidental discoveries that grow out of fast, gestural, conceptual visual thinking. The rough, imperfect sketch or study model does not simply hint at an idea, it inspires the maker and viewer alike to take imagined artistic liberties—connecting a scarcely deliberate concatenation of dots—and filling in the voids with their own creative visions.
