    Five years ago this week we chatted to Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana as they unveiled their chairs made from Disney cuddly toys in London. As Design Indaba drew to a close in Cape Town, a condom applicator designed to help prevent the spread of AIDS was named Most Beautiful Object in South Africa and we featured lighting made from salvaged plastic that had also been presented there. Designer Moritz Waldemeyer sent us backstage snapshots from Paris Fashion Week of mechanical dresses that play videos, plus we previewed the chairs that architects Kram Weisshaar planned to launch in Milan that spring.     This week last year designers BarberOsgerby were appointed to design the Torch for the London 2012 Olympic Games, while they later unveiled in June, a fashion designer and an architect showed a collection of 3d-printed clothing and a boulder-shaped mausoleum opened in Acapulco. Japanese architects Apollo completed two houses with pointy overhangs in Sendai, one black and one white, while in Denmark a physical shop opened where customers can buy digital fonts. A Dezeen commenter accused architects Ooze of raping an old house that they had wrapped with a faceted skin, and another thought an orange showroom building with gaping holes in its facade best resembled a chunk …

    This week sports brand Nike launched a range of knitted running shoes, car brand Mini unveiled a panel-van version of the Mini Clubman and RCA graduate Min-Kyu Choi put his award-winning folding plug graduation project into production. A website called Arch Leaks was launched to revel the secrets of architecture firms and some users immediately set about creating and rating fake practices, while open-source designs for spectacle frames cut from 18mm plywood stirred up an amusing debate among our readers. ”We are currently working on the next iteration of WikiGlasses – a range of 18mm ply open-source contact lenses,” comments the designer.
